It was Vote Night, and the energy was electric. I was in the thick of it, not as a spectator, but as a content creator for Student News Live, a 24-hour live broadcast event bringing together student journalists from across the country. My mission? To produce a compelling news segment showcasing the life of a homeless college student, a story that deserved a spotlight. And I was the sole storyteller, the one-man band orchestrating this narrative from concept to launch.
The journey was an adventure. Pre-production involved meticulous planning, scouting locations, crafting interview questions, and coordinating with the talent. Production was a dance of camera operation, sound recording, and directing, capturing the essence of the story.
Post-production was where the magic unfolded, weaving together footage, archival materials, and music to create a cohesive and impactful piece. But the experience didn't end there. I had the opportunity to step in front of the camera, introduce segments, provide commentary, and guide viewers through the night's events. It was a chance to showcase my broadcasting skills and share my passion for storytelling.
What did I learn from this immersive experience?
I honed my ability to work independently, managing every aspect of the production pipeline.
I gained practical experience in all facets of news production, from interviewing and filming to editing and collaborating with industry partners.
I discovered the power of visual storytelling and its ability to shed light on important issues.
This experience wasn't just about creating a video; it was about amplifying a voice, sharing a story, and contributing to a national conversation. It was about the thrill of live broadcasting and the impact of student journalism.
