CONTEXT
Dr. Paul Jimenez was my counselor at Santa Monica College, Professor Jimenez is the founder of the nationally recognized Undergraduate Research Scholars Academy (URSA) which supports high-achieving community college students transition to selective universities. While participating in URSA and other programs Dr. Jimenez facilitated, I realized that he truly cares about people, and I jumped at the opportunity to help him get elected.

WHAT I DID
I helped Dr. Paul Jimenez get elected to City Clerk of Hawthorne, California in 2018 by volunteering 24 hours of my time. I met with a team of volunteers on Saturday mornings, from 8am-12pm, for 6 consecutive Saturdays. By the third week of campaigning, I had recruited and trained 1 person to help campaign for Dr. Paul Jimenez.

APPROACH
Be reliable by committing and following through to volunteer for 6 consecutive Saturdays. Learn to do the job by observing the campaign supervisor approach voters and present data about our candidate. Train with the campaign supervisor for about 1hr and then begin to work independently. Spend about 1 minute presenting data about our candidate and 2 minutes answering. Before leaving, ask the voter for a commitment to vote for our candidate on election day.
